The last 10 years has seen an exponential risein the diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria in children and adolescents, many of themgoing on to identify as Transgender. The treatment deemed best practice overthat time has been 'Gender affirming therapy' but this has been with littleevidence behind it. Clare Rowe, child psychologist, will explore where theextraordinary rise in these cases have emerged from, discuss theconceptualisation of these presentations as a mental health disorder andfinally make a case for an individualised nuanced approach to each child andfamily.
